America built up Obama, and now i am just waiting to see how long it takes them to tear him down. It is what the country loves to do, more than anything else... even more than shopping and gorging themselves on fast food. He is a smart guy though, and i am sure he knows this simple fact and will act accordingly.
You see, America loves the underdog and sees themselves as underdogs no matter how much that is not the case. Americans need things to get bad (or at least seem bad) so they can get a fix of their drug of choice: HOPE. Hope is necessary for the underdog. It keeps them going. It keeps them fighting. Go ahead, start chanting your favorite "Rudy, Rudy" or "Rocky, Rocky" or whatever underdog movie icon you hold so dear and watch time and time again.
Americans love hope because it is the belief that thing can and will get better, things can and will be all right. The thing is hope does not actually require you to do anything. It is all the sugar high without the nutrition. Americans do not want to change, in fact they do not want to do much of anything. They still want that good feeling though and hope delivers just that.
Obama is going to have to sneak the necessary changes in without people really being aware that they are changing. Like those gummy fruit lunch snacks you find in the chip isle that contain 100% of your daily vitamin C. They sell because they really are just candy but you got a little of what you need thrown in there.
I pray that he can pull it off, although if he does it the way i think he needs too i will not even realize that he has pulled it off. i will just wake up one day and notice that he snuck it in there.
