Guns of Brixton
A friend mentioned a song from the Clash's "London Calling" album. Any song or lyric from this album forces me into a state of unrest until i have the opportunity to listen to it again. As my iPod has once again started to fail and throwing it against my garage floor didn't seem to fix it i had the song running over and over in my head until i could get home and listen to said song on CD out of my home high-fi system.
A reference of any kind to the movie "Fight Club" does the same... in fact, now i have to go watch it... damn it. i won't mention any others for fear of having to spend the rest of the week listening/viewing things mentioned in this entry but every so often comes a movie or album that has this effect on me.
In the future, please be considerate of references made in public keeping in mind how long it might take some fan-boy to exercise his demons. Thank you.
Worst Bumpersticker EVER
Oh the things that almost happened. First i wanted to get a marker out of my car to write "asshole" across it. Then i wanted to write "fuck-head" across it. For a second i thought of using my car to ripe the bumper off and then throwing the bumper through the rear window of the car.
i calmed down slightly and thought to deflate all of the tires: a serious inconvenience but no serious or long-term damage. Then i got thinking about a few things:
a) by doing any of the things that i wanted to do i would just make this person hate people like me even more, causing their already small mind to completely close up, possibly even making them even more paranoid and hence they would go buy more guns to protect/defend their possessions
b) i am a fan of free speech. Although i have contemplated making little "fuck" stickers to put in front of people's "GW" stickers (fuck bush) i also realize that if i were ever to put a bumper sticker on my car (maybe saying "6 million miracles is enough") i would not want the people that i am aiming that sticker at to damage my car. If they wanted to stand around it until i got back that would be fine but leave my poor car out of it.
Something had to be done so instead i decided to take a picture of it and rant about it making an example out of this person for the whole world-wide-web to see (or for the three people who read this to see). i had my camera ready to take pictures of Suessian Sculptures anyway so that's the route i took.
There are so many things wrong with this sticker but i will mention just a few. First, people in this country seem to dwell on one of two things: dicks or guns. If you have a penis and it works you dwell on that. With the exception of the occasional sexual harassment this usually just helps to bolster the porn, Kleenex, and/or condom industries.
If you have a penis and it doesn't work you start collecting substitutes for your flaccid member, or guns as the NRA likes to call them. Where shooting off your natural gun may lead to unwanted life (accidental babies) shooting off a man-made gun usually ends life. Something to think about next time you see a gun-rack or sticker such as the one above.
Secondly, using a nazi reference to vilify something is just a short-cut to thinking. Really now, we all know that that was one of, if not THE, worst thing to have happened in modern history
but to jump right to that for your comparison shows a complete lack of creativity. Like no one's ever used that before. Every pre-pubescent kid has called some power-tripping teacher a nazi at one time or another. Come on now, pool those two brain cells together and come up with something better than that.
Now i could conclude with how Hitler was probably not for gun control (although i don't know for sure but he had a lot of people shot) or i could point out how they view Hitler as evil but still have a picture of him and the nazi symbol on their car (i couldn't spell swastika) but instead i will close with a WHAT THE FUCK? Does that really say 'Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership' on it? HOLY FUCK! i bet if i entered "left handed transvestites with two different colored eyes who are against gun control" into Google i'd probably find a group registered. i thought i had seen quite a bit but crazy, fringe, right to bear arms groups have got to be the nuttiest. Apparently there's a group for every type of gun toting person in any given demographic.
How much does it cost to bullet-proof a Prius?
