It's always nice when some proof comes up for something you've felt or believed in for some time. Before i continue i also feel the need to openly admit: yes, i am a geek, i know that.
i am quite happy that there is a growing amount of proof and therefore a growing amount of scientists who agree that the phenomenon currently known as the 'Big Bang' is just one big bang in a larger series of bang cycles. This also opens up the possibility that there is no beginning to our universe, just a cycle.
Before i knew what science was i was learning from nature and in nature there are no beginnings or ends, just endless cycles. i also feel that the first two laws of thermodynamics apply to much more than energy when they mention that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Matter really is just another form of energy after all. Wouldn't it make sense for the universe to behave more like nature and energy than a movie or book with a beginning and an end?
i've mentioned this on several occasions to students but once i get this far into the 'beginning of the universe' discussion none of them are listening anyway. It is nice, however, to know that i am not alone in my feeling and that more and more proof is being recorded to support the idea.
The best part is you don't need all those alternate universes to explain the theory the way you do with string theory. All those alternate universes are quite amusing though.
All these findings on the origin of our universe and we are still burning coal to produce over half of our electricity. Why do we let morons run our governments again? Oh yeah, that popular vote thing. i almost forgot with Jr vetoing a bipartisan bill which would provide healthcare to needing children.
Come on now, just let scientists run the country for one year... that's all i ask... one year. i swear you'd see improvement in that small a time. Then you can vote in another rich frat boy like you have every other election.
i'll go back to reading about how almost all mammals only have 7 cervical (neck) vertebrae (including giraffes) so i don't have to think about little kids without insurance or monks being held as political prisoners.
