33 Revolutions Per Minute

i've been reading for quite some time now about how the major labels of the record industry have been filing lawsuits against college students, colleges, kids, and mothers alike all trying to prevent the downloading of music. i know i have written entries before about my view of sharing music, weather in mixed tapes or on the internet, and you can reference them off of the 'music' heading of this site so that i don't bore those who have read it before.

i have a plan: "Project Fuck Major Labels". When will they learn, they are attacking those that support them the most. Even crack dealers know they'll get more money in the long run if they occasionally give some out for free.

Here goes. Keep buying from the indy labels. They aren't starting these ridiculous suits and we need someone to put out music once the majors crumble (Dropkick Murphys and New Found Glory coming out next week are both currently on indy labels). Stop buying disks from major labels. Those artists you enjoy who are on major labels can be supported in other ways: put the money you would have spent on a cd into band merchandise and concert tickets (we'll deal with ticket agencies later... one at a time now... just like the Spartans). Bands typically get a higher percentage from merch and tix than cd's anyway so that's more money for them while less for the label.

As for the music one must be a bit more creative. The internet is not all that difficult to track, especially if you are downloading ton's of shit. Keep an eye out for yourself and think. If you and your crew really need that new Brittany Spears album, even though she has no talent and is so chemically altered she makes Anna Nicole Smith look like a mear recreational user, pick one of your pals to buy the cd and all copy-load onto player-or whatever those over-edited tracks. Old-school piracy, after the ships but before the internet.

Each of you take turns as your favorite pop-tarts put out albums and there would be such a decrease in sales that the majors would be forced to fold within a decade. As long as you continue to buy from indy's they will rise in their place, with hopefully more morals and ideals. Keep supporting the bands in other ways and all should work out.

If i get arrested for hypothetical manifestos you know who came reading. i feel some drive to speak my mind even more lately as i was reminded this weekend of all those in other countries who are tortured for speaking their minds... even though they probably had better things to say than stop supporting major record labels.

You vote every time you open your wallet.
