These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things...

Even at the best of times in history it is easy for one to get overwhelmed by things. You never quite have as much money as you would like to have, you never are quite as healthy as you would like to be, your job is never quite as good as it could be. Combine that with the troubling time we live in: at war, declining economy, climate change; and you can easily find yourself very overwhelmed and bogged down.

It is during these times that i need to be reminded about all the beauty in the world. i feel better just knowing that John Frusciante (RHCP) is still alive and walking on the same planet that i am. Knowing that Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, The Byrd, and Charles Mingus made that music they did in the 50's makes me feel lucky to have lived in this country. How can you listen to music and not acknowledge that you have a soul? What other purpose can making music have than to express that which you are feeling, that which is in your soul?

Music saves me on a daily basis. It reminds me of all that is good in this world. It takes a little of the weight off of my heavy heart. Sometimes we just need to be reminded what really keeps us going. That push on a skateboard, that hand written poem, that kiss.
